I actually had the same exact problem i think you have. When i first installed BF2 it worked at first and then it decided to quit. All i got was the game to turn on and i could hear the music and everything but not see the game. So what i did short of reinstalling the game again is find the latest driver (ATI card) and reinstalled it. Actually i think i had the latest driver but i did it anyway. Worked like a charm. Hope it helps. who's fuzion anyway? j/k

back to the topic-- no it wont need SF, just the plain bf2 and any mods we may put on it.. not sure yet tho
If we run mods which there would be no reason to run an unranked server without them then no you wont need SF. I do still recommend getting special forces for the reason of more guns alone. You get acess to twice as many weapons and the ones that you get pretty much dominate all standard BF2 weapons.
