I been tryin to setup a static ip and i've basically cocked it up, does anyone know how I may be able to reset it?

This is the process that I went through before I experienced all the faults, basically i went to my "network connections" window and right clicked on the connection that I use and choose the properties open, under connection uses the following items i then selected internet protocol (TCP/IP) and then click on the properties for that. I changed the options from obtain an ip address automatically to use the following ip address, and i worked out all the information that I had required and filled in the addresses, my internet did work after a while but when i rebooted it just died on my main computer... i know the internet does work as i have my old mans computer and my laptop hooked up to the router and the connection still works.

is there anyway of resetting the connection back to normal? i dont really want to have to reformat the machine to solve this problem

I set up mine as a static ip. you made sure you picked an ip outside of the dhcp range of your router? also try to reboot your computer/router and go to the main page of your router and see if you computer has been detected

so, are you saying that your isp gave you a static ip?
you have no control of what they give you so you should find that out first...

nope they did not give me a static ip, i tried to set it up on my computer myself, using portforward.com

i have the settings that i have had to get of my isp to help set it up on my computer... not what they set up for me

if your isp gave you a dynamic dhcp assigned address, then tell your router to use dynamic dhcp, if you try to use static, when you reset your modem they will give you another ip and you wont be able to connect...
if you want a static address use a dynamic dns provider such as no-ip

I think his router came along with his connection so that makes it a modem/router. as far as I know you should be able to asign one(or more) computer a static ip adress within your lan...

ah, well not all routers come with that
basically you should look for a MAC to IP assignment or something like that

im still on the phone to them... i feel like cutting this dude off... he keeps telling me to change my ip address in my network connections... then he tells me to switch from using a usb cable to a ethernet cable... then he tells me to update my driver (where he came up with updating the driver from the orginal cd they sent me i dont have a clue)... then the fucker tells me to update my lan card driver ... argh man one more annoying thing im gonna hang up

hmm I now remember why I quit my previous isp that was offering the same router/modem.
My thought was reseting your router and reinstalling your lan card... but if thats not working im out of ideas
