Looking at getting a new card. Can somone give me some advice on what to look for, considering I want the best gaming performance. 2 cards have similar core clocks but one is 100 bucks cheaper. Is the more expensive one gonna be worth the extra? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...82E16814161052R http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...82E16814161071R Thanks, Gutter
I'm not the best guy to ask but I did see that they are both open box items..... Just thought I'd mention it in case you didn't notice.
I love my X1950 Pro... but its a PCI-X AGP is just obsolete... don't even bother put some money together and get one of these: cheap ass pentium D 805 oem, get a decent heatsink $100 ecs or biostar skt 775 mb pci-e 16X (make sure its 16X) RAID0 @ $75-100 halfway decent gfx card, 256mb (dont get low end dx10, they suck) @ ~$125-150 2GB ddr 800, any brand CAS5 @ ~$120 antec power supply @ $100 2X 320GB Hard drives for RAID0 @ $146 LOL @ $666 if you want to spend more, go for this: core2quad e6660 @ 300 4GB DDR 800 @ 250 4X500GB SATA2 @ 450 Antec truepower quattro @ 300 (i see a theme developing) Ati X2900XT or NV 8800GTX... $400-500 GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R @ $160 A superior box for under $2000 $2500 for SLI 8800GTX's
i got agp.. im not complaining.. X1300 Pro and it kicks some major ass for its price.. (lol.. under 40 bucks with all the instant rebates and shit) honestly tho, they are about the same.. one is 128 bit, other 256 bit.. memory clock is a major difference between the two of em.. but 500MHz isnt worth 100 extra bucks to me.. id go with the cheaper one just because the differences they have arent worth the extra cash.. as far as gaming performance goes.. the extra MHz will give you about 5-10% better performance id say
Hey thanks Fuzion and Cletus!! Gonna try and get a year or two outta this rig and just update the card for now, so I'll prolly go with the cheaper one and hope it plays cod4 ok
yeah a rig can last longer than a lot of people think.. ive had my rig since 2000 and the only thing i changed on it was the video card and added more ram.. that was just within the past 6 months too if you can handle cod2 fine with your current rig with no problems, then getting one of those cards *should* handle cod4.. that is, if you have enough ram (dunno how much the game requires) im assuming it has about the same requirments of bf2 or bf2142.. if so, you should be fine
Well, youre obviously able to play now, so I wouldn't spend any money on upgrades. I love the look in a clients eye when I tell them that their 7 year old PC with all its upgrades from over the years is still only worth MAYBE a quarter of what they spent on it... and I also like to taste their tears when I tell them that XPS or Alienware is total trash... MMM obsolescence... makes me kinda stiff...
At this point personally I would not invest into an AGP port GPU. The next upgrade would have you replacing everything. I would try to get by for now, and even with modest next gen hardware, it will kill the top of the line last gen.
