I have been reding and mulling it over for a bit now , im not sure which way i should go.The 8800gt is a better single card solution for around 300 bucks , or the ati 3850 for 200 or crossfire for 400,both solutions are cheaper and faster than the 8800gts which is around 400 also.
I am getting this setup http://us.shuttle.com/barebone/Models/SX38P2_Pro.html , e6850 core2 duo 2 gig ddr2 800, and the sticking point for me is the vid cards.
I like to game at my monitor native resolution of 1650x1080 so the power of crossfire actually comes into play, as compared to almost no raise in performance at a lower resolution.
Let em know what you think.

as i dont have a very large monitor, i really dont consider crossfire as needed, however in your case--it is certainly an option..
out of personal preference i would say the 8800.. but again i am not sure how effective crossfire is (we all see how much SLi worked.. lol)
you seem to be leaning towards crossfire, and for the same price practically, theres not much that could go wrong with it.. so crossfire it is

Like I said in the other thread, I would get the 8800gt, you can always get a second one when they get cheaper. I dont really know about ati right now, but it seems like they're getting their ass kicked by nvidia
Besides, I dont believe crossfire is that much better than sli. I could be wrong tho, its all about what you want. If you prefer ati, get an ati card, same when you prefer nvidia. I think nvidia is ahead of ati right now, but that can change at any time....

Read this article which gives you the rundown on the 3800 series...

They have all the top games with Video Card comparisons in a nice chart near the end of the article. Way too much info for me 20 pages, but very in depth.

Looks like the 8800gt still wins by a thread over the 3870 Ati for FPS gaming but so close that pricepoint will be the determining factor for most...

Does cod4 even natively support dual gpu's (CF or SLI)?
To the best of my knowledge, the only games that
do to date are Crysis, King Kong and F.E.A.R.
I'd need to check that out before a purchase.

    ya its in the settings
my only problem with the ati is the 3850 is the only option as its only takes up one slot, the 3870 takes up to, so i canot crossfire two 3870's.And to top it off, if crossfire doesnt make a huge impact in some games i am down to one 3850, which is quite a drop from an 8800gt.The benchmarks i have seen tho show in crossfire at my resolution , it makes a nice improvement.
