ive seen this on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/QUAD-CORE-2-Duo-Q660...VQQcmdZViewItem

if i bought that could i just use all the parts that i have in this current pc and connect that into the motherboard?

i don't know how too show u what parts that i would have on my computers to use but... i have a network card, dvd 20x writer, cd writer, floppy drive, power supply, ddr ram memory, and the case (might just buy a new one tho)

am i right in sayin that computers can be built by just pluging in and installing a os on it? would i need to mess about with the jumpers n stuff?

will i have to set up some sort of bios settings?

I have that exact same MOBO Ammo. It is nice, but I would double check that it supports the Quad core Processor. Overall, I have been satisfied with the performance of this mainboard. If I were to suggest something else, I would go with a 600 series board, just for the CPU Front Side Bus is at 1333 usually, which means you can Overclock that Intel chip even further if you want to. I have a e6600 2.4 Core 2 Duo OC'd to 3.0 without any problems. But, as far as installing your OS, you should be able to just plug in your HDD and run with it. Are you running SATA or PATA HDD? You will still have to install appropriate drivers and such.

if your hard drives and dvd drive are sata then there's no need to fool around with jumpers, if they're ide you have to set them up right. and you might want to make sure your power supply is suffcient enough.
Edit: thats a good point Shark, check if it supports quadcore first, I would get a board with a 1333Mhz FSB if I got that cpu.

    www.upgradeadvice.com

    ask for [UAN]Fuzzynutz

seriously you may find FUZiON's service helpful while you mull this project over

but were all here if you need us as well

definately make sure your not under-rated on the PS

most other parts you mention should be compatible and you really shouldnt have to mess with any jumpers

Okay so using Belarc Advisor I have managed to get information about my system that might help you advice me on what to do.

I've tried to sign up to upgradeadvice.com but my account will not log into the forums, and it won't load up from time to time neither.

Couple of questions, overclocking, is this safe? can i do it at home myself? will i need to take it to the a shop to do this? how will this benefit? how much of a benefit would it be?

sata? pata? from the details above can you tell whether my system is sata or pata?

a motherboard with a 1333MHz, will this make my computer faster enough for me to notice?

how do i determin whats the psu watt i would require?

ive come up with a list of the following things im going to require in the system

    cpu
    memory
    hard drive
    graphics card
    sound card
    cd drive
    dvd writer
    floppy disk
    case
    power supply
    fans
    extra usb ports

    is there anything im missing?

I guess you got everything on that list (a floppy drive??)
Your hdd has an ide connector as well as your dvd drives. The fsb of 1333 will be noticable when you overclock your system, cuz that cpu is clocked at 10666 mhz by default. Overclocking is quite easy, most manufacturers (not the cheapest) provide various options to do this in your bios or with other software. You do not need any special stuff do it, except when you really wanna go high up then you'll need some better cooling device, also get some good memory.
The wattage depends on what your system needs... However I recommend not to save on the psu. The cheaper models which claim to provide 500 W or something, the 500 W are the peaks.
Maybe this will help u http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

ok cool for the info... does that mean i can't use my hard disks then? or will have to change the cables around but i can use it?

im on ebay and im looking at these cpu bundles n stuff... im stuck on wat sort of cpu to buy i mean i wanna get the best from what i can afford but i dont know wats best from wats crap... c

os theres all these intel pentium 4 core

    Intel Pentium D Dual Core 6.8Ghz & 1066Mhz Motherboard

but then isnt there dual core 2 and then theres quad core? how do i determine which one is better than the other?

I think you on the right track man. I notice that these new MBs only have 1 IDE port. Mine does also(Gigabyte M61P-S3). Which means you can have 1 IDE HD, and a cd drive, 2 HDs, or 2 disk drives, on that port. So when I did bout the same thing you planning to do, I had to leave out a HD and a CD drive out of the set up. Seams that SATA is the new standard for HDs these days. Something to take note of. Anything more to add or if im wrong about something plz let me know.

Also, consider the new 8800 GT. Check out this benchmark..

From what I hear its the best performance for price card out right now. Anything better will cost way too much more.
    Good Luck,
