Recently my pc has started to stutter while playing COD4. I've tried drivers, defragging, disk clean ups...and of course removing the dust bunnies. Anyone have suggestions? These are the specs: WXP SP2 AMD5200 /2.6 GHZ 7950GT PCI / 512MB -Current driver 430W PSU / TP2-430 DVD R/W Audigy 4 -Current Driver 2 case fans / 120MM 3 SATA COD4 V1.5 Any help would be appreciated.
1st run task manager to check for any unusual background stuff running on your systems, mostly Spywares. Look over the Internt for those processes you suspect are malicious and then use hijackthis or Combofix to remove them. These things can mess up your Windows Stabillity and Memory Resources. BTW, How much Ram do you have?
3gb, Memory I already shutdown the anti-virus when playing, firewall stays up though. I made a bat file to shutdown unused processes. I think there are only 26 running now. I have almost no page file usage. I also run a physical firewall on my network. This really started after upgrading to 1.5 and running on the the new custom map server, but I'm hoping it has nothing to do with the hardware but It seems to hanging more and more.
run memtest, check temps and voltages, run another game to see if you have problems, use autoruns to turn off unneeded stuff, etc, etc, etc search the forums, im sure there is a post with the standard tests/steps
ok, i'm gonna fix this for y'all....... make a wish, stick your dick in a dog, pray for an abortion.......
i can almost gaurentee its not his power supply.. his shit aint turning off, its getting slow/unstable.. i dont know much about this sort of problem to even fix it but pretty much anything fuzion says related to computers it 99% right.. and the other 1% is just opinions.. i'd try what he says
Go through the gammit. Spyware, virus, scandisk, defrag, etc. Sounds like not really a general PC issue, but COD4 performance is degrading? Anything new been installed besides games? Is it an ongoing issue, cause the server can have a fit now and then, but thats temp, and not often. Or your ISP could be up to something, thats causing lag spikes. /best of luck // extra slashie juz 4 you
This is a great site and utility for testing and monitoring processes on your computer... http://forum.sysinternals.com/default.asp It is everything that Taskmanager should have been.
when was the last time you did a fresh install of windows? if it has been more than 6 months ago, i wouldnt bat an eye at windows being fucked up. how much hard drive space is free? if you fill the drive windows will eat itself like krome in the wee hours...
All i can say is you cocksuckers got more time on your hands than I... not much help froggie but I guess listen to these bitches
Well, the temps look good, extra processes all shut down. Only using about 20% of the CPU. Rarely if ever uses the page file, game runs in memory. However, I notice the lago meter goes ape shit (the green bar gets yellow and red spikes) when the stuttering occurs. I'm starting to think this is a network issue. I'm not sure how to interpret the graph, I'll google it and get back to you. I wanted to thank everyone for giving there $.02, hopefully I'll get this fixed soon....extremely frustrating. :ranting:
alot of good suggestions here hows your performance when connected to our Hardcore server? would you say its degraded equally?
It occurs at random times then stops, nothing graphically intense on the screen. As for the Hardcore server, i'll spend some time there tonight when I get home.
"Only using about 20% of the CPU." Is that while you're running COD or no? Your CPU should never stay that high unless you're doing some intense like playing a video game. If your shit is usually at around 20% while you're not doing anything, that's a problem. If so, just do ALT+CTRL+DEL and go to your process manager. Then look at how much CPU each process is using up. You will be able to find the process that's hogging all the CPU. Write down the name of the process and google it, find out what it is and how to get rid of it or fix it. See: http://fileshack.us/get_file.php?id=886024...ile=Capture.JPG
