before i connect to play cod4 the ping displayed is around 150, but when i connect its up and down constantly between 200-250 and never keeps at a steady level my isp is cable and ive just been given a free upgraded to 10mb im in the uk and when i check my connection through speedtest.net in dallas tx i get a ping of 145 everytime!! so why does my ping accelerate to 200-250 in game? if anyone has any ideas i would really appreciate it coz its really doing my head in
thats normal.. cod4 gives a higher ping to us for some reason.. i play now with a 200-220 ping. But as far as i think cod4 can be played good enough with that ping..,its not like cod2 when you had a ping like 180 and couldnt play fine anymore
Most of those are blocked by peerguardian, which could be very bad when you consider that most of our players run pirated games, and probably use it, or some other blocklist software. Virginia: 116ms 116ms Texas: 43ms 44ms Los Angeles: 95ms 92ms Boston: 88ms 87ms Raleigh: 73ms 77ms Atlanta: 120ms 122ms Chicago: 86ms 89ms New York: 74ms 89ms Now add 20ms to all of those and you will get your actual ping to our server... I suggest we go with a main host, and not some "gameserver" host who is just renting their boxes from serverbeach and charging you an extra $20/mo on an oversold rack for extra "features" that we don't even use. Windows or Linux does not matter, just price and ping. /rant
The Planet has a bunch of crazy deals, but they all end on the 29th http://www.theplanet.com/promotions/default.asp
no i am not retarded :drunk: ... i typed that before you posted your post so i didnt read anything about the chicago thing. So i obviously say new york because it gives me the best ping, but i also already knew that it didnt go to happen. But everything is fine by me, no not everything.. but not to far away for me please :cool2: Boston New York Chicago
PG basically blocks connections from your computer to any known ip's that are blacklisted as sites that are dangerous, especially if you are file sharing (BT). There are a lot of machines out there now on the BT network that's serving up fake bits, but really just logging your ip for attempting to download copyrighted data. So PG's a safeguard to try to minimize the possibility of receiving a notice from the court that the RIAA is suing your ass for distributing all that copyrighted child porn or worse, the Feds knocking down your door in the middle of the night and shipping you out to an undisclosed (Gitmo) location to help answer a few questions about Osama's whereabouts. I guess the equivalent up in Canadia would be some canuck mountie taking you to SasQUatchewan and putting you through some Canadian snow torture. For people who've been messin' around and know what they're doing, yea, we know to check if PG's blocking a certain ip when we can't access a site and then disable PG or whitelist the ip or whatever. I think Fuzzy's more concerned with the lemmings (the casual user who learned about the wonders of the internet cuz their coworker said they could download all the episodes of The Office if they install this torrent program and to be safe, install PG too without knowing how any of them progs work). I wouldn't be surprised that a lot of the people that play on our servers fit in that category and they would never know to check whether PG's blocking access to the game server ip's. I dunno, it's a potential player traffic killer.
done a speedtest online to chicago it says its 138 from uk better than the one u on i average around 170+
i dont have any peer guardian software or active torrents downloading or uploading just done speedtest to chicago and quite impressed with result so using it as my signature for all you guys to view
ive defragged ,formatted countless times,114 ping to chicago will do nicely if server gets changed to there!!!!!!!!!!!, all uneeded processes off,no downloadin progs runnin ,no file sharing anyway gonna throw it outa window then maybe myself !!!!!!!!!
Im in NV (surrounded by California, Arizona, Utah..) current server via DOS is about 50 ms after 5 pings.. chicago is about 60 after 5 pings texas 66.135.37.150 gets 46-50 those are really the only viable options for it to be still playable by the majority.. but then again i dont want to move servers and lose all traffic again.. starting over is a bitch..
Well, I'm playing with a ping anywhere from 120 to 140 so anything that is a little better than that I'm happy. It's like Austin said 200 is even playable for cod4... I think chicago would be the best option. Didn't we have a server in chicago at one time or was that Erikwades?
