Can anyone tell me what is the biggest advantage of getting a Quad Core? and Will Vista make the most of my 4GB?

You'll need a 64-bit OS to take advantage of the full 4GB of RAM. Quad core's not that much use for most of the current apps and games as most aren't compiled to take advantage of multi core CPUs.

All relatively old games with multicore enhancements. Though its still true that they aren't "Optimized" for it.

I think 32bit is fine with 4g. You don't need 64bit unless you are running more than 4. I think thats right anyways.

Yeah, pretty much... surprisingly though, it depends on your video RAM.
If you intend to go with 1024MB video with 4GB system it will only see ~2.5GB total...
That alone should warrant getting the x64 version :D

That's just Intel marketing blowing smoke to sell their cpu's. You ask any of their engineers to define the amount of "benefit" in that statement and they'll stfu.

All I'm saying is that to really take advantage of those cores, software programmers have to have an understanding of parallel threads/processes management and architect their software appropriately from the ground up. It really introduces a shitload of headache and risk for hard to find bugs during the software development process that a lot of CTO's just don't want to be responsible for or have to explain why they have another product delay. I'm not saying there aren't programs out there that are optimized for multi-cores, but it is definitely not as much as what Intel leads you to believe. It will take some time for programmers to shift to this new paradigm.

Q6600 (4 cores)- better for high end super CPU intense apps like video rendering, etc.

    vs.

E6850 (2 Cores) - Better for gaming in general and overclocking. For reasons mentioned by Fuman and Fuzzy.

The OC difference is that the Q6600 does not have as fast a FSB as the e6850 (1066, 1333 respectively). And the fact that most games do not take advantage of the Dual cores yet, let alone Quad cores.

Read about it here... Q6600 Vs. E6850
