Today my connection was exceptionally slow, even after several modem and computer reboots. I brought up the status page of the router, and it had 6 connections. It should have only 3 (My computer, Family computer, wireless printer). The 4th connection had a computer name, but it was just a series of letters and numbers. The other two listed after were described as 'null'. I do have WPA-PSK enabled, as well as MAC filtering. Someone went to some trouble to get on. Any recommendations as far as additional security and/or figuring out which one of my neighbors' kids needs me to go Bruce Lee on their ass?
you can use a screen (that stuff from a screen door you can get at any hardware store) and block off sides of your wireless router in the direction of your neighbors. Basically, you have it in between your neighbors and the router to block any wireless signal to them. That's the cheapest way I can think of. Well, of course it doesn't beat bruce lee drop kicking their asses, but civil lawsuits could follow from that solution.
I disabled my radio after my laptop bit the dust, you might want to check this out: http://www.ex-parrot.com/~pete/upside-down-ternet.html Or, if you're feeling lazy, check out wireshark http://www.wireshark.org/ Turn off wpa, turn on wireshark and go to bed one night. In the morning, find their passwords and emails and shit and let the lulz ensue
I took 2 roached out towers and made 1 working , for this dude last week, he had no protection on his wireless router. Didnt give much a shit, put it together got it all working, and asked if the house next door was for rent. I couldnt even begin to explain, or take the time to set it all up. Free beer, and food only gets you so much.
Would I be the only one to recommend changing the key and adding mac filtering? As well as the router login and password... Not vindictive or fun, but serves the purpose. Either that or try to find the IP on the connecting computers and see if there are open shares.. If the device is null, could be a console or DS/PSP?
Fuzzy FTW! Do what he says, and make them pay! It is your bandwidth and your liability. Screw them. You know what needs to be done. / UAN Fore-evah!!

on the wireless router back at my house, i set up a password and it is, well atleast I hope, WEP protected. I don't live next to any computer nerds so I don't really have anything to fear, but fear itself. It was easy to setup, but then again I used Qwests' actiontec wireless router. I set our password to *********** and no one has cracked it yet
here's what im doing at my place right now. have an old linksys WAP running standard settings, completely open. Then a second WAP not broadcasting the SSID, WPA2, and MAC filtering (for my personal stuff). these are both connected to a 2950, with the rest of my hardware, sitting behind a 1710 and a pix 501. have everything vlan-ed off, and a small server running on my honeypot vlan. anyone that jumps on to my crap wireless network can look at my bogus shared files (huge files that just clog up their wireless connection) or jump online to just get redirected to goatse. so far, 10 victims. really wondering when the apartment complex is going to send out a mass letter to everyone about network etiquette
