reduce ping and lag

Hi, i want to reduce lag and lower my ping (as i am in england and lag abit), i have found that lowering bandwidth also helps this and i have stopped alot of msconfig services and startup items. This has helped alot and can play most servers lag free but when i use ventrilo at the same time i get abit of lag. Is there any settings in Ventrilo which will make it use less bandwidth? or is there anything else on my comp except stopping startup items and services? thanks guys! your help would be much appreciated!

It shows you which services should be disbled to increase bandwidth! it has really worked for me!

1st thing you need to do is reduce Video Settings.
Make sure NOTHING is running in the Background,
(except for Vent Of course).
Including Anti-Virus, anti-Spyware
IM Clients, etc.
I made a post here a long time ago regarding
some game-specific settings,
like com_hunkmegs, com_maxfps, etc.
If I can dig it up, I'll re-post it.

com_maxfps is for framerate
It's a trial and error thing.
You change it in the console with the cmd:
seta com_maxfps "n"
where n is the selected framerate (a number between 24-156, normally).
Any less than 30 frames per second is useless, though.

for resolution try 800X600 @ 60hz, see how it works then move up
from there.
You can change resolution in Options->Graphics Options
