    Have an eVga 9800GT (single-slot) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=3670
Plays CoD4 1680x1050 max settings (except AA off) fine, BFBC2 1680x1050 medium settings fine Would be nice to max those settings, too hehe.
BUT, I am kinda looking for something better. Been looking at cards out now but not enough performance jump to justify the $$. I could do SLI and run 2x 9800GT's but that also means another mobo (might be the way I go). I feel kinda stuck in a sucky place: already have decent performance, but not great; want more but not at a humongous expense. Any ideas (besides wait for prices to come down)?

I would definitely say it's not worth buying another 775 socket mainboard to SLI a pair of 9800GT's

    Reasons:
    - The G92's (gpu that runs your card) chips are from two video card generations ago, driver support is already limited and will become more so now that another new gen gpu has been released.

    - G92's came out prior to Nvidia greatly improving their SLI profile efficiency a couple of years ago. So the multiple gpu scaling on 8600-9800 series cards is meh. In short your not going to see that much of an improvement.

Also BC2 is not the best game to base your personal PC performance aspirations around. Besides all of the games buggy quirks there are many video performance irregularities as well. I have experienced 30+fps hits with the various server patches (I have no idea what the correlation is there). Gpu utilization decrease by as much as 40% on various drivers and client patches (not due to a CPU bottleneck) and now that I am running some ATI gpu's in my gaming rig, I can't run the game in DX11 without constant white screen crashes.

The best way to improve your performance would be to overclock your Q6600 (simple and great overclocking chip) to 3.6GHz give or take and purchase a single card solution for your system. I'm not sure what budget you had in mind or what PSU you have. If your thinking of a mid ranged card I would suggest the ATI 5770 or even better the 5850. If your a die hard Nvidia fan I would suggest a GTX275 (Microcenter has some online for $200).

If DX11 is important and you do not mind switching to ATI... I would go with the 5770, but that is gonna be a compromise for price and performance.

If you are not worried about DX11, then you have a lot more options.

What is your budget and what size PSU do you already have? I would not recommend SLI since there are a lot of Nice single card GPUs out right now.

i'll just add to sharks note, in that I LOVE my new 5770 from sapphire. its a beast compared to anything I have ever had, anything higher would have required a loan.

Not a big ATI fan, but that may be from unfamiliarity. Always had an Nvidia except for a Radeon 7500 64mb back in the day. The GTX 275 might be the way I go, and there is a Microcenter about 15 minutes from here. My current PSU is a Coolmax 350w that I had to splice in a 6-pin power connector for the 9800GT lol It actually works on 350w! I have been needing to go 750w + for a while anyway. Microcenter usually has a few decent ones on clearance in-store. Nice having a huge Fry's and a Microcenter within 15 minutes of the house! too bad I don't live down the street from Newegg

The GTX275 is a beast of a gpu, its essentially a GTX285 with some of its shader cores disabled and a bit less VRAM depending on what model you get. The GTX275's that I was referring to at Microcenter for $200 were BFG branded ones. BFG is a solid and respectable distributor of Nvidia products. You get a lifetime warranty as well as the opportunity to participate in the 100 day step up program. Meaning from the date of purchase you can upgrade your gpu to something newer only by sending in your old card and just paying the difference (there is no depreciation taken into account). Essentially 3+ months from now you could decide to upgrade to a GTX470 once the prices dropped if you choose to.

A 350watt PSU is not going to cut it for a GTX275, your going to need at least a 575watt PSU with a total of 42A on the 12V rail. At Microcenter you can pick a quality non modular 750watt PC & Power Cooling or Corsair PSU for sub $90...
