So I know a lot of you aren't too big into the BF series. Most of you also know I was a heavy heavy player. With the Battle Field 3 coming out this year I was wonder what everyone's take on it is. I want to use this thread for all relevant BF3 information. Trailers, beta key finders, news ect... This is an older article but still good. http://www.neoseeker.com/news/14494-battle...-for-pc-gamers/
When I say BF3: What to expect I was assuming that this was a thread about how great this game will be, then how this game doesnt matter because we are a CoD clan, then a discussion about "some people" and "game of the week", then about who has just downloaded it on zero hour, why is it so buggy? It keeps crashing! Who managed to get it installed? I'm on right now! Cool, how do I join you? Man this server browser sucks!, I hope they fix these bugs, game night tonight!, fuck this keeps crashing, this sucks, new patch...25 gigs?!?!?, oh, good, DLC... what $14.99..for a buggy patch? yay the server browser works...how do I join off you? fuck! you guys all suck...what server you on? /thread

Expect for the "How great this game will be". Personally at this point in time I am on the fence, I have heard some enticing things and I have heard even more things to make me never want to pick this title up... The rumors are true it is the FrostBite 2 engine, same as BFBC2. This bothers me considering how terrible the helicopters in BC2 are. Found some min and rec specs... Minimum System Requirements Processor: Dual Core Memory: 2 GB Hard Drive: 15 GB for Digital Version, 10 GB for Disc Version Video Memory: 256 MB Sound Card: DirectX Compatible DirectX: 10 Keyboard and Mouse DVD Rom Drive Recommended System Requirements Processor: Quadcore Processor Memory: 4 GB Hard Drive: 15 GB for Digital Version, 10 GB for Disc Version Video Memory: 512 MB Sound Card: DirectX Compatible DirectX: 11 Keyboard and Mouse DVD Rom Drive
I'm very excited for this game hopefully it will be worth the wait. I'm excited peroid for a lot of the new titles coming out here shortly... Crysis 2, Homefront and Portal 2. For the record BC2 uses Frostbite 1.5 and Frostbite 2 is the new engine that will debut with BF3. It will be a true DX11 engine among other things, it should look pretty tits.
Yea they used a hybrid like you were saying for BC2, and BF3 will be only FB2. However that does little to console me when we have the heli controls so waked out in BC2. I highly doubt a small jump to just FB2 only is going to make that much of a difference with controls. I could be wrong and I hope I am. There are jets in the game so I can only speculate that the control's are going to have to perform differently to the ones n BC2, however I have been wrong numerous times and DICE has never really given me a reason to believe in anything significant since I have been hearing about this BF3 release for almost 6 years...
I think it's more of the configuration of the vehicle (max pitch, roll, etc.) then it is the engine... just think of what you could do in sandbox for bf2..
Yea very true! I didn't think about that, still the controls felt different but they still had that BF2 feel. Then comes BC2 and its nothing in comparison to either one of them. Well maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel...
this reminds me I need to go chopper raping in bc2 again.. then get my ass handed to me in a chopper on bf2.
The problem with choppers in BC2 is that the max pitch/roll/yaw is very limited. They could easily remove those limitations and tweak the controls to give players absolute control of the chopper. Problem with that is new people would be stuck In BC2, they did it purposely because that is the exact way it felt in BC1 (console only). As there are going to be jets in BF3, there have to be some smart controls there (no jets in BC2, remember?) so, from a "logical" standpoint, responsive controls for the chopper would have to follow. I wouldn't be disappointed to see different "sets" of controls, ranging from basic (limited controls, but harder to flip/easier for a beginner) all the way to expert (completely loose controls, no limits, tons harder to master). What I do NOT want to see is the hitboxes come back from BF2. In BF2, the hitboxes are what made pilots/gunners choose their "seat". I can mess up my hitbox all day long in BF2, but I could never hit a messed up hitbox. A missle should never be able to hit something if it isn't there. Even being a pilot on BF2, I would honestly prefer if they balanced out the vehicles more. A little more tank action with a little less rape from both choppers and jets. The tanks from BC2 are fantastic and I would expect DICE to take hints from it for BF3.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Cletus @ Feb 7 2011, 01:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div> Find me direct quotes from the developers before I even consider this "In BC2, they did it purposely because that is the exact way it felt in BC1 "... Plus you maybe should read some post before you post, I stated that "There are jets in the game so I can only speculate that the control's are going to have to perform differently to the ones in BC2"... aa so yea I remember. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Cletus @ Feb 7 2011, 01:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div> I agree 100% with that, It would be nice to finally get to hit a chopper instead of a lag box... <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Cletus @ Feb 7 2011, 01:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div> Disagree if you don't like getting drilled by helis or jets while your tanking then don't play maps where there are jets and helis. The original purpose for the heli was for air to ground. It was never supposed to be this air to air battle shit, so they should leave well enough alone and let the game evolve into its own just as BF2 did...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Butzie @ Feb 7 2011, 07:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div> Yea 64 player is back so there should be some large maps!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (IwazInYoMom69 @ Feb 7 2011, 03:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div> I am not saying the devs said they did it purposely.. I am going off the sole reason that it was sluggish in BC1 and didn't change a whole lot when going to BC2. They never intended BC2 to be the next big BF title and it shows. As for tanks/helis... there should be rape now and then. In BF2, the dominant vehicle is an attack chopper. If you don't learn it, you are bound to get raped more often then not. I would like to see the role of the attack chopper lowered to a bit less of a rape machine and tanks/other vehicles rise to be a bit more game changing force. Choppers should still be there and most certainly should be a deadly weapon, but I do not want to see them become the vehicle that dominates all. There should be a niche for each vehicle and there should never be one that fits every situation.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Cletus @ Feb 7 2011, 09:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div> I agree, EA and DICE has stated a dozen times that BC is in no way a predecessor to BF2, its just a branch of the BF series. I agree if you don't learn to use the choppers then yes you will be raped in certain situations, however I think that's what entices people to learn the chopper, so they don't encounter that again. Maybe give the tanks more damage or give them a greater shooting angle so that its not as limited as it was in BF2, but the chopper should remain the same. In the real battlefield (exactly what BF3 is supposed to be about) the choppers are key in almost all situations, they may not do as much killing as reconnaissance in certain missions but they are primarily used for killing. Hell give a map a couple more IGLA's or AA vehicles.
