I run Norton Internet Security since they got their act together in 2009. They finally got the message that IS/AV (AV is futile these days, you use IS) should not be resource heavy, intrusive or even bothering the user what so ever. They did it right. It's pretty user friendly, consumes almost no resources is only active when the user is not, is smart enough not to scan files that have not been altered not over and over again, etc. etc.

I personally I don't use third party AV software for home use. I solid hardware firewall and Windows security apps are all I need for the home.

If you're hell bent on using third party AV software, go to Newegg before the 25th and check their Black Friday deals (search under the software section... page 6: http://promotions.newegg.com/best-black-friday-online-deals/index6.html). They pretty much have every major antivirus software developers (Kaspersky, Trend Micro, Norton, AVG, Eset, McAfee, Vipre, ect.) suite for free for one year that you can use on three different machines.

The firewall & safe zone are well worth the extra coin in Internet Security suite. Avast is about as good of a value you can find in security software.
