Ok, ok... I'll sign up for that beta. 18 feb. is release of Second Assault though, u can find me in Oman.
Hey guys, this game just went open beta. Just get on live support and ask for a key, you'll get one. It's beta until the 19th at 9pm EST. I've been playing the beta a lot and I REALLY enjoy it. It's very fast paced, skill based (no bullshit, fluff filled killstreak nonsense like what CoD has become), really solid mechanics. It's been getting a lot of praise and I for sure want to keep playing it on release. Unfortunately, the gaming community I play with now don't have much interest in it, so it'd be nice to have some guys to bust up some titans with. If you're interested in seeing some good gameplay, here's some footage I recorded. There's some decent Titan vs Titan fighting in there, but those fights can get really intense, much more so than I was able to capture in that footage.
i got the beta access but NO notification,so i have to thank the second assault to arive allmost at the same time so i could at least try this shit at his last dying day...good job EA motherf/&%#/(%&/...
I've been playing the beta as well. It has some very fun aspects, but some very frustrating ones as well. Namely, the mouse input is shit. FPS is capped at 60 fps and screen tearing just ruins it for me with vsync turned off. Yet another console port where PC gamers are shat on. Even if the game was optimized for PC, it suffers from too few players. 6 vs. 6 makes the skill gap obvious. Almost to the point where if you get just two other good players o nthe opposite side, the game feels lopsided and ends up with them steam roilling the match. Then there are the mindliss NPC bots, that just ruin the immersion factor. I had a fear that this game would suffer from a lack of consistency. The underpowered feeling I have when trying to take down a Titan while on foot is infuriating. IT seriously takes like 10 Anti-Titan rockets to bring one down. That is a tall order when there are like 3 titans on the opposite team and there is no one on your team willing to help out. Oh well. This game feels like a big meh for me.
Shark, you're right on a couple things and I think you're looking at a few other things the wrong way. First off, the beta doesn't have raw mouse input, easy fix with a launch argument +m_rawinput 1 . The FPS is capped at your monitor's refresh rate. Turn vsync off in game, and enable vsync through nvidia. The small 6v6 size really is the perfect amount of pilots for what I've seen. Among all the bots, it makes spotting a pilot a really personal and unexpected experience rather than there being a dozen pilots everywhere and then, at times, a dozen titans. Your complaint about teams being lopsided is kinda dumb considering it applies to every MP game that's ever existed. If a team doesn't have good players, they will lose. While on foot, I have no problems taking down titans, especially if I have a teammate around. Just rodeo on his back, take his health down, fly off, rocket him, he's dead. It doesn't take 10 anti-titan rockets either, stop bullshitting. Once their shield is down, a heavy rocket will do like 60% of their health. Not to mention, there will be turrets in the game that, I guess, you'll be able to get on and shoot titans with which isn't in the beta. The NPC bots are there to "buff" yourself. Kinda like a moba, I suppose. Killing them knocks down your time until you get a new titan and they can be very useful to hide in and you can use them to distract the enemy or get a read on their location. That said, hopefully they will be a little less mindless on release. A lot of people playing the game have seen their purpose and don't complain about it. All in all, from what I've seen, the game is pretty balanced.
I'd give the mouse suggestions you made a chance if I did not already uninstal lthe game. I am glad you are liking it. Games are supposed to be fun. I was just not having fun with it, even when I was scoring well. The titan fights are just not my thing. I have never played a party based game that I have liked. It all started with MW2 and it sucked. Getting thrown into a pub match with 5 other random camping KDR noobs just is not fun. Especially when you are playing objective based games. Even worse when matched up against a team where it is obvious that they are good players and on comms. That equals rage. Sorry... no dice. At least on BF4, you can still make an impact on the game if there are a hand full of terrible players (or non-objective players), because there are more players on your team. It is a pure numbers thing. I have been following some people of twitter who have been beta testing on PC. Some have gone 60 matches without a loss. Why? Cause they are playing with 3-5 other friends who are really good. I would hate to party up against that as a solo player joining a match. Just does not feel competitive at all. That is what I mean by "lopsided" and I think it is only more evident cause of the lower player count matches. It may come off as whinny, but I feel the game is not balanced. Honestly, after about the 3rd round I really had no desire to play more. Sure, it was satisfying when I killed other pilots, but every time I killed an NPC, I got bored. I think if they got rid of the NPCs and made the titans a bit easier to kill while on foot, I think it would be more manageable. I am just glad I got a chance to play it for myself. I did not have to waste yet again more money to find out it is a game I will not play long. Anyways, there are a lot of games that are popular that I just do not like (Counterstrike, League of Legends, etc.). Perhaps that is the beauty of gaming? So many options out there.
I hear ya, man. I guess. If the game just isn't your kinda game that's cool. There's just been a big hate train of people looking for reasons to not like the game without looking at things objectively and I try to clear the air when I can. The full game will likely have queue options to match making with other solo guys or parties, like most CoD games, I assume. As well as private matches (confirmed). I think there's something big here. People are talking about this game bringing up nostalgia from playing halo and cod4 and ut2004 for the first time in their will to keep playing. Respawn devs have been active in even the reddit community as well as making comments like, if the gameplay isn't up to par, don't buy it. I'm sure there will be some balance tweaks, but probably not what you're thinking of.I think this game represents a place where multiplayer games are going, asymmetrical. We've had a million even playing field games, as Adam Sessler represented as, glorified games of tag. Titans are supposed to be tough to take down, NPCs are supposed to be easy. You have to use all your tools and the map and your teammates to accomplish goals. Having enemies running around the map that can crush me if I'm not careful is an awesome concept me. A good example is a game coming out called evolve, which looks incredible. Not to mention, you can just constantly pull of badass moves on this game. Wall running man! Just my 2 cents. But like you said, the beauty of games is the selection.
It will NEVER exist another game that, brings up our lovelly memorys of playing CoD4 for the first time...NEVER I SAY!!!! and fyi...i liked playing Titan ,but will not buy it,at least now.
You're probably right, man. CoD4 was the first of its kind and experiencing those shooting mechanics for the first time.... it's nothing but pleasant dreams of nostalgia anymore. Shit's changed so much. How many years has it been since cod4? Maybe, a few years from now, people well be talking about the good ole days of the first titanfall, ha. Shit man. I got Titanfall for 45 bucks, btw.
I will revisit this game after launch. See how it is adopted by the community and whether it is goign to stick around or not.
I'm gonna sit this one out I'm afraid... I still got some Premium DLC's to play and I don't even feel stoked on that. I don't have the money either and if I would have it I'ld probably spend it on Dark Souls 2.
