No Dedicated Servers for MW2

If this info is correct (which bashandslash usually is correct..) There is no dedicated server or mods for MW2. It's gonna all be run through steam. There is no punkbuster, it's gonna be usings steam's VAC status..

Patching out of the box...true. I think that switching from a 'steam cloud' approach (which I am guessing they will copy) to the old school server would be a pretty huge patch...I mean rewrite....I mean DVD.

Next they will be starting micro-transactions, allowing you to purchase guns in the game, new hats etc.

I think, like movies, mainstream gaming has reached its pinnacle. Meaning that innovation and hardwork get swapped for money making and more money making for the least possible investment.

'Freeware' developers have either been bought out, sued, or told that they cant release their software on the platform of choice (read:iPhone) due to 'conflicts'.

CSS works with Steam, .. I've played at No-Steam servers,.. and.. may be MW also?

Well I think it is too late really. Clearly they planned this way ahead of time, and probably knew the shitstorm that it was going to start. The thing I bet they didn't count on is that it would make people so angry that they would ignore or refuse to buy a sequel to their favorite series of games. WRONG BITCHES. I'm not buying some stupid ass game if I can't play it on a UAN server. Period. I'm not going on some gay IW servers, with gay admins, telling me I can't call someone a cum guzzling gutter whore for camping around a corner for the whole round. Sorry jackasses. Trying to turn PC gaming into console gaming is not going to fucking work. I think this post said it best, I found it on the IW forums, and it was a reply to all the console gamers on there that were unsympathetic to say the least:

Don't you see you're missing the point? PC gamers and console gamers want DIFFERENT things out of our gaming experience. PC gamers don't want "to play just the same as console users". If we did, we buy a console!

Our community is built around DIFFERENT concepts that the console world. Modding, dedicated servers, clan/competitive play are important to us. We're not asking for any special effort, we just want WHAT ALREADY EXISTED TO NOT BE REMOVED AS IT IS INTEGRAL TO OUR COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE.

To a console gamer, matchmaking and easy accessibility so you can jump in without any hassle is a GOOD THING. But, to many PC gamers, this is not viewed that way. It is viewed as limiting our options and forcing us into a single dictated play-style that is contrary to the existing one that our gaming community is already built around.

By trying to force PC gamers into console gamers is it really surprising that we are upset? If we liked that style we already have an option: WE'D BUY A CONSOLE. The fact that we don't is because we don't like that style of gaming, it feels dumbed-down to us as we are used to (and enjoy) the technical tweaking and customization that comes with modding, server admin and the like.

Good for console != (does not equal) Good for PC. It's a simple as that.
