Problem

Hey, new here just joined the server for the first time and after about 5 mins I got kicked out with an error saying corrupted memory or something, anyone have any ideas why, is this common or something to do with my rig?

Please try this solution. Download the following PB update tool:

PB Setup

Once downloaded, manually update the the PB files on your PC and verify (and post if you want) what versions they were updated to. This way you can force the program to overwrite old or possibly corrupted pb files.

Let us know if this works for you.

yo, if that doesnt work then run memtest86 and test your harddrive surface

I updated punkbuster but the same thing still happenin, even does it when I don't play, got the same error spectating.

I ran memtest for a couple of hours while the match was on but that didn't return any errors, passed 5 tests..

Nothin ever works first time :-/

Any other ideas or should I just call it a day?

Well, My take on the error "Corrupted File" would be one of the main IWD files. I would try reinstalling COD2 and see if that fixes the problem.

Well If there was an error with the actual game files then wouldn't I of encounted problems in the single player campaign?

When it is working its all runnin smoothly, and it happens randomly .. if games files where corrupted I think the game would crash, not just wait for punkbuster to kick me out..

No necessarily... Multi uses a different exe and I expect some different map files... also.. is auto downloads on?, was it a custom map or a 'stock' cod2 map (what map was it if you arent sure).

About the only thing that I think of when I hear 'random' corrupt files is a bad stick of ram... but like you said..you've run the single player...

My PC is custom built and never really had problems before, played many games online so I don't think its anythin to do with my PC, theres no problems reported in the event viewer so I think its just down to this punkbuster..

I was wasting you all the 5mins I was on Until a few of you respawned and knew where my position was and tore me a new asshole, nice the way it shows you the other player killing you but for stealth people like me doesnt really help matters

auto downloads? This is the first time I played COD online, only ever used single player until I came accross this site so I dont have any maps or mods, it was downloading alot of stuff before allowing me to connect to the server though so I guess auto downloads is on..

Yea, All that stuff you downloaded was the mod and some custom maps that this server uses.

single player doesnt use punkbuster.. not unless you have some wacked out kiddie version..

i'd highly recommend a straight reinstall of cod2..

I'll try reinstalling then tomorrow, should I use the default version or patch it to 1.3?
