    ok, riddle me this bitches...

i have a gigabyte 7vax mobo running an amd athlon xp 2000+ at 1.67 Ghz.

i just pulled an amd athlon 2600 (AXDA2600KV4D) out of a busted ass emachine H2602.

when i throw it on my board, it boots (even in POST) showing as an amd athlon xp 2000+ but now running at 1.5 Ghz...

i assume my mobo's FSB is not high enough to juice the new chip properly, thusly clocking the fucker back.

should i jump the voltage from the BIOS and see if i can get it up to the proper speed? problem is i can't find enough info on the Emachine to determine the board's bus speed.

i expect xp!der will jump on this one...

Voltages do not affect cpu speed or fsb. the only reason to bump the voltages would be to stabalize an overclock or correct a problem with the mobo underpowering the CPU.

Your best bet is to read this manual:
    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherb...al&FileID=15270

There may be a jumper on the mb to adjust your fsb from 266 to 333.
Its more likely however that the bios has a menu where you can change this.

Given that the mb has a Kx400 chipset, it likely already has support for your chip. A BIOS update should not be necessary.

The easiest way to fix this issue would probably be to set Optimized Defaults and reboot. This setting should set everything to Autodetect and it should set your RAM and CPU to the proper settings.

Im not trying to make you look like an idiot. Trust me!
