ASUS Xonar Xense .... I have been looking for a replacement sound card for my SB Titanium's due to driver related issues. This ASUS looks amazing and the on board power amp is a good addition - it's true that most sound cards do not have enough power output to properly run an independent headset. The only downside I can see is that several articles mentioned that the two would be sold in a combo package. I already have the headset and that would be screwing over the people that have already purchased the Sennheiser PC-350's. Anyone here have an ASUS sound card? If so how are the drivers and how often are they rolled out? <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
That company sennheisser makes the BEST quailty sound products ever. Ever since I changed my headphones, I swear to god I am hearing sounds in music that I never even heard before, the TV sound quailty is even sharper. If your suggesting that ASUS and sennheisser are working together, I am selling my creative fatal1ty (which is awesome for the sound control nob at the front of my machine. Just thought of something, It could generate too much heat, wait for reviews IMHO.
Asus's downloads (the actual download speed, not frequency of updates, etc...) have been notoriously slow for years :wheelchair: Doesn't stop me from buying Asus gear though. I love Asus' stuff. That is a badass-looking setup though. Makes my TB Riviera 5.1 and headset look awful weak :bag:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Butzie @ Apr 5 2010, 02:44 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div> It is when you have surround sound, and I can hear you coming up behind me ready to knife me! Though, I'll stick with my soundblaster.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Butzie @ Apr 5 2010, 01:44 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div> ditto btw who plays a game for sound... unless its Mario Bros.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (red_moon @ Apr 5 2010, 11:15 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div> Get your nose out of Butzie's ass! Also, see my avatar for further instructions.
you know me.... I argue with butzie constantly, but i find 1 thing to agree on and i got my nose in his ass? lol see me avatar for my reaction to your post
I've never really played games for sounds, but I put the quailty down to the lowest, just to decrease any change of decreased performance in relation to it, even if it accounts up to 0.01%. But ever since I upgraded my whole rig (ONE FUCKING NOISEY MOTHERFUCKER - SEPERATE ISSUE) I been amazed with the quailty of sound from just playing music not the gaming. I think its worth upgrading your sound card if you constantly listen to music. But you also got beware of which components are just a money grabbing scheme and which ones are truly decent in performance. I've bought a Creative fatal1ty card, at first after I bought it I felt like fuck I think I paid to much for nothing. But it has grown on me since i've heard it in action. However I would be interested in seeing what other cards perform like compared. I am looking at getting some ASUS card.
I got one word for ya Butz AKG K240 (ok 2 words) they'll respond below 200 and hold the highs good enough for my burnt out ears Ive had mine for 15 years and still haven't heard a set that even comes close
and as for surround sound. you should have perfectly good s.s. on you onboard ... unless your riding around on Dino
-What a failure and train wreck this thread has turned into. I asked one simple question " does anyone here have an ASUS sound card? If so how are the drivers and how often are they rolled out?". -I do not need nor did I ask for anyone's advice on the things that I buy. I spend 10 times the energy, money and time on home audio/theater/automation than I do with computers. I don't need half ass explanations on audio reproduction. -I could probably write a 1000 word piece on the various audio standards and codecs and how they relate to gaming and its progression. How I have experienced a significant difference in the audio environments and clarity in the most basic of games like COD4. Just by altering between onboard audio and even through the different generations of APU's (Audigy, Audigy2, X-Fi, ect.). In short though, no one here reads posts longer than several lines... -The card I referenced probably won't cost much more than your average Xonar or latest X-Fi. What makes it different from the rest, is its onboard amp and drivers. On Butzie's point relating to power "won't go loud enough (haha)" the amp has nothing to do with volume. A x1 PCI-e slot in theory provides 75watts of power. Once that 75watts actually passes through the lane, that 75watts is far less. Now those remaining watts need to power the processor and RAM on that soundcard. The watts that are left over from all this now need to power the drivers in the headset. The remaining wattage on your average sound card cannot properly power 117mm XTC drivers like the one in the Sennhieser PC-350's. Sound range frequencies are not defined and sounds become blended and distorted. When I plug that same headset into one of my amps, and play an identical sample with the same bitrate and codec, the sound reproduction is superior compared to what it sounds like when they are plugged into my computer. -Extremely lame how only a few of the replies to this thread actually pertain to the original post. Fuck off CaptainH and red_moon ...but seriously red_moon you can fuck off.
you still expecting threads to stay on topic around here? and I stopped reading at 2 lines which by my standard defines "extra effort"
Ill concur, asus is average+ for support. butzie is less than average for support although usually replies a lot faster than asus. ive had a lot of asus gear since my first socket A, they do good work
Thanks for the replies. I have been having quite a few issues with my X-Fi Titanium's and the newer W7 drivers. I wanted to try something new. It has been a long time since I last purchased an ASUS product that solely relies on their in house drivers. And I have never owned a ASUS SC, it has been Creative SB as far back as I can remember...
I tried to actually answer the question way back when. Then today, I actually got a good speed downloading this little BIOS utility as a test download... so forget I ever said anything :Bucktooth:
