I canceled my pre-order with Amazon and placed a pre-order for BFBC2 from Gamestop. They are the only retailer confirmed to have beta keys and some other bonus material. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div> "Bonus AKS-74 assault rifle" Gamestop/BFBC2
You have to order it online to receive a beta key. Also note that online "in store pickups" do not qualify for a beta key.
That's pretty gay... even more so considering they ship on the day it's released if you order online.
In reality if your concerned about not getting the game on the day of the release. You could just pre-order the game (your not charged until the day of shipment), receive a beta key, play the game and then just cancel the pre-order.... and purchase it else where. It's an option....
Actually no it isn't. Word is that you can't cancel the preorder from Gamestop once you get the beta key. Let me see if I can find a source for it...
Either way that would require more work than I'm willing to go through for a game lol. I will probably just do the dam thing through gamestop anyway. Thanks, I am ready for this game!
It seems that DICE is clarifying some of its original statements concerning dedicated servers... <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div> Essentially your going to have to rent a server from a pre-approved list of providers. In addition to this there will be no console, mod tools, PB, ect. Eurogamer Aperture Games As stated in one of the articles its seems highly likely that the server software will be leaked...I hope so. I got to give credit to Muddr, who brought this info to light last week.
I'm not too concerned about it. At least they have dedicated servers. Mod tools could easily come with a patch... along with distributing the server files. Even so, I don't think this game will need mods for quite some time.
Battlefield has in my experience has always been a GSP driven model. I have no problem with them keeping that model. But, we will still be able to browse servers lists and filter based on desired ping. something that IWNET does not allow you.
I agree its not a totally complete damning issue and I understand why they are doing it (prevent piracy). Its just an inconvenience to initially have to rent a server else where. All in all though having the ability to kick dougbags is priceless...its worth its weight in gold.
It wouldn't be that different from BF2, in that in order to be ranked you must rent from a authorized distributor. I'm sure it will be an upset to some of the modders of BF2, but it is well within possibility to release something within a few months after release. At least clans will be able to continue to have that one place where everyone can flock to.
Somewhat happy medium, except for no mods or custom maps (lame). On the other hand, it's better than nothing. Currently I play MW2 on xbox all the time and deal with them picking a bad host, then rehosting, then play for 5 minutes, then it happens again, ect. Plus the party system is whack. Dedicated servers, people joining and leaving at their own convenience instead of gay parties, is where it's at.
