the website and redirects are the only thing running. It's not due to bandwidth limits, it's most likely due to numerous people d/ling the same damn thing. We have 1TB of bandwidth reset every month, so that is not the issue. I was getting 500k down this afternoon. Test it when the server is empty, and when the server is full. Hope that cleared something up. The redirects are going to be permanently hosted on uangames.net. It's the same connection that watsonunited was. Unless we can find an uber computer that has an uber connection we can use. Plus, now everytime someone is d/ling, they'll see uangames.net and maybe go to the site.
Too many variables to pinpoint one thing. krome is completely correct. SLow DL, getting dropped would be a result of too many large downloads going on at once. wait a few days when all the regulars have their downloads, and it should improve. the same thing happened when I hosted the files, when there was a lot of load...namely, when you guys would add a new large map. Even with renaming maps, I've never had to re download them. I highly doubt that downloads would cause this site to lag. You would need 20 people each downloading at 200KB/s each to see it slow...actually, it shouldn't slow then. One possibility is it's our database host. The database for this site is not on our site itself (localhost), it's remote, kept with probably a thousand other DBs. That server could be under load, or the connection between the 2 could be busy. This is possible if another site hosted on our server is insanely busy, or another site using the same DB host is busy. too many variables. none of them permanent. Things should be fine in a week, if they are not, I will help you find a new host.
i can't remember who recommended godaddy If we coudl afford a vded (which I would love) we would have it. Dammit people, DONATE! of course, I refuse to move the site again.
Ive experienced the same thing a few times over the last year I would agree with our web gurus 100% on the fact that ti has to do with the number of people conected or connecting I guess its one of the trade-offs of d/l maps on demend vs. map-packs I usually wait until the map is 5 min into gameplay and reconnect I get killer d/l speeds once traffic is lower [UAN]Sniper69
I have a vded you can rent from me.... That's not going to change too much. We're all at the mercy of our ISP, the host, and all the connections in between. It only downloads at 2MB/s anyways.
I just busted a nut, I can finally get DSL at my house in the boondocks. I have 1.5 speed at work where I play now, but I can get 3 at the house, hopefully it will have as good or better ping to the server. Different provider (Yahoo DSL at work, local phone homos at the house). Fuckin sweet
DSL is for the pussies who can't afford/get cable. But congrats, I'm still gonna beat your face in though.
Cable isn't offered slave. I have satellite TV and the Internet for that is expensive ($80/month) and slow (ISDN speeds), so I chose to have nothing instead. When you live where there is no cable/city water/high speed internet access, being able to get DSL is basically equilivant to Jesus's second coming.
