You little bitches don't have a horror game thread.
    Shame.
I'm a huge fan of horror games. Only problem is, there aren't many games out there that actually do anything more than the occasional startle. *cough*Dead Space*cough*
Well, I'll start off with a few of the games that actually do scare me and I'll leave a little bio with each game to explain the elements that make it good.

    Amnesia: The Dark Descent
This game redefined horror. The developers that made this game (the same ones that made the Penumbra series) realized that horror isn't about the random startle. It's about putting you in a constant state of agonizing terror that won't go away. And this isn't accomplished by the occasional alien running around a corner, it's the environment, the sounds, and your life in your hands. No limb-tearing gun. There's really no way to put what you experience into words. It's $10 on Steam. You won't regret it.

    Penumbra Series
Made from the same people who made Amnesia and it has all the same elements. No need to tl;dr this one.
However, for the sake of making this a few lines long so that you don't skip over it, I'm going to say a little something.
    Derp.
    Herp.
    Herp derp.

    Fatal Frame
There are 3 games in this series (not counting the stupid Wii one), but most people regard the second as being the best. Although, they're all phenomenal. It's for PS2, ergo - PCSX. As a third person survival, horror game, it's a tad different than Amnesia and Penumbra. Those two games are built on self-preservation horror while Fatal Frame has a few psychological elements too it as you are trying to figure out your situation while living it. The game captures the "constant state of agonizing terror" extremely well. More or less, considering they are different, as well as Amnesia.

    Silent Hill
I know most of you have heard of these. They are a brilliant series if you get into them. I know a lot people can't fully engross themselves into a psychological thriller, mostly because the majority of gamers just want to go, "doh, i just did shot dat guy. lulz." Silent Hill puts you in a town that you have to explore your way through trying to figure out ...spoiler...play the game... They're made by Konami which, if you don't know (then you're a tool), are the developers of the Metal Gear Solid series - a series I hold very dear to my heart. Konami are masters of story-telling which is the most important aspect of any game.

    Siren: Blood Curse

This is a PS3 game bought over the PSN. I think it is $20. It's, more or less, a refurbished version of a PS2 game called Siren. It's the same, just updated with better graphics and gameplay dynamics. This game probably has the most interesting back-story of the previously mentioned games here. There is the cliche island that has myths upon myths about it and the general consensus of its closest neighbors is that it's not the place you want to be. "You won't come back", as it were. You play as a film crew that went to this island as an interesting setting for a TV show. I'm sure you can guess the rest of the story. This game, like the others, isn't based off of combat. In most situations, you won't survive a direct conflict with an enemy. And that's most of the fear in these games.

Well, that's all that I have to synopsize right now. I know there is a new Silent Hill game in the making and I'm sure the developers of Amnesia are working on something since that game was a huge success.
Feel free to post anything that you like. I'd love to check it out.

When you are playing any of these games, it greatly intensifies the experience if you play alone, in a dark room, at night @_@, and with headphones on. I mean, it REALLY changes the experience for the better.

I really liked the Resident Evil series before it got repetitive. RE2 was my fav.

Resident Evil has its style. The co-op elements are nice.
I updated the OP with a new game that I blanked on while originally typing it up.
