I honestly haven't had any problem with my 2 LinkSys routers... one lasted close to 4 years and only quit because I dropped it (10 foot drop anyone?) when I moved... other one I have (WRTP54G) is working great as a wired router. Eh, oh well... I'm just Cletus...

i put ddwrt on a guys router one time, he got so pissed cause he (ex-sysadmin) couldn't figure out the port forwarding and smashed it against a telephone pole...

there are probably a lot better options out there, but you should only be concerned with what you buy if you intend to hack it

if you are, check this out

I don't know about the current dlinks, but the older generations I used locked up a lot too even after many fail firmware releases that supposedly fixed the issues.

Whatever you think about Linksys, they are the easiest ones to work with IMO when it comes to Third Party Firmware, Port Forwarding and QOS management.

I have used this one for almost 4 years now. The only time I ever have to power cycle it is after downloading torrents.

It does everything I need it to do and it cost me $40.

For Opensource Firmware you can check out this site...

Yeah that's the one I had that lasted til I dropped it. I've never had to do a full network restart unless there was a power outage or sheer self-retardation... good router. I smell Cheetos.
