I just bought a big tv (47" lcd), it has a pc input, does that mean that i can make it in to a monitor?

Anything special I need to do or just plug it in?

so i take it the tv has a vga or dvi plug? I do this stuff with my desktop and nvidia has sweet program that I use. I am pretty sure ATI does as well.

Should be able to plug and play though

Movies, etc will kick ass on that. Gaming i would think impractical, unless you got a good console experience vibe going on.

Its a VIZIO, at first i thought they were cheap but after reading reviews and comparing them with other ones i chose same quality lower price. And like all brands there are the cheap line and the good line, this is the good one.

And yep I bought a PS3 that i mainly got for the Blue Ray, games on there are cool but nothing beet PC games.

And Tonic, it has a VGA plug.

If it's a standard VGA input plug, it'll probably look like ass since your vid signal will be converted twice from digital to analog at your PC and then back to digital at the TV side. If your video card can output DVI or composite video use those to get a mucho better picture. For DVI, you'll need a DVI to HDMI cable to hook it up to your HDMI input on the TV. For composite, that's pretty straightforward unless you're colorblind.

After hooking it up, you'll then have to deal with the overscan issue (the screen extending beyond the tv's actual edges). Both nvidia and ati drivers can handle this by outputing at a slight lower resolution. If you can't find it let me know which video card you're working with and I might be able to step you through with that.

I just retired my older system to replace my original weak ass HTPC so a lot of this stuff is still fresh in my head. So hit me up with any questions before I forget. It's sad, my HTPC just plays Dora the Explorer and other kid shows all fuggin' day long.
