Just heard on a PC PC Games podcast that Treyarch is putting mod support and dedicated server support into Black Ops. If that is true then I will buy it on day 1. Runs off ot search for the proof... Edit: <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div> http://www.callofduty.com/board/viewtopic....787884ebcbd2611 After reading that - I'm going to consider buying the game at day 1. However, I may wait until I see the mod support first.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div> COD4 has mod support but never took off like it should have. Same with COD5. I wouldn't hold my breath on decent COD7 mod support. We might have to wait until COD25 for something worthy.
No Xatrix, I'm not anti-CoD. I'm anti-console port. I'd be very happy to see that they went back to pre-CoD4 level mod support. They need to unlock the whole ranking system. Really, who cares what your rank is on a PC? I'd care more if it were server specific ranking.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Adogg @ Aug 25 2010, 08:50 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div> Unlock a CoD4 server, turn off ranks, open up all weapons and just watch the people flood in... *crickets* Sad but true.
Problem is that the COD4 client is hardcoded with the MPDATA file in mind. That is why in all of the MODs (i.e., etreme, awe, etc.) it took forever to be able to set your class load outs. I personally enjoyed "round-specific" ranking in COD2 extreme way more than over-all server ranking or character name ranking as seen in COD4 mods and COD4 stock, respectively. It gave the player an incentive to do well each round they played. I think it would have been a much better decision to allow players to get for example the "3x frags" perk only after they scored a certain amount of points in a given round. Another example is: give snipers the "Iron Lung" perk after successfully getting 5 head shots with a sniper rifle in a given round. The possibilities are endless with the use of kill streaks under certain conditions and based upon performance merits for individual rounds. This is just one philosophy, but it always worked for us on COD2.
Sad part is most people can't be bothered to download any mods or custom maps, even if you auto-download upon connection, they just quit. People just want to click and play, not have to get mods, wait for shit to download, configure their shit, blah blah. Bunch of impatient and lazy asses now. Even if it supports modding/dedicated servers, it won't matter. At best there will be a UAN type server of run and gun with the new COD, but having populated modded servers is a pipe dream. Sometimes you guys sound like old farts who insist that music from their generation is the best, everything new is horrible, and no we won't ever give it a chance. Stuck in a time that will probably never return. I choose the play the crap they are serving up now because that's what friends and people I know play, and I enjoy the experience of playing games with people I know (or even you assclowns) more than I enjoy sitting around being bitter that the game isn't exaclty what I want it to be. That's the hard truth, in my pants.
