Need help with installing patch

I'm trying to install the new call of duty 2 patch. When i open the file it starts loading the file and says some stuff "checking opertaing system" ... then when it reachess "Configuring windows installer" it crashes and says "1628: Failed to complete installation". I thought it might have something to do with my windows installer, so i downloaded it from microsoft.com and reinstalled it but the problem presisted. :?

Also, when I tried to install patch 1.1 a few months ago the same problem was happening. :?

I would imagine uninstalling and re-installing COD then trying to run the patch would do the trick

the installer its referring to is the game installer not Windoze installer

the patch installer is obviously looking for installed components and is not satisfied with what it sees
