for 2500$ you could put together an almost second to none system theres no doubt about that be it quad or dual core processor and the best video card.
I still cant see amd coming back out ontop considering with intel bringing out the 45nm processors that puts amd 2 generations behind instead of just 1. Butzie has a point though the performance gain per $ drops a hell of alot the higher up you get.
Well the best game I can play online is a text based MUD. You're right, there really is no reason to spend that much on bleeding edge for 5 extra fps, best to just get a nice core2duo or quadcore, ddr2 ram, a decent graphics card, although those HDs are pretty tits I suggested (and expensive).
