helpin strudels put in new ram into his comp, and runnin into a memory error. motherboard wont post and i get a long beep when it boots. the current configuration was 2 512 mb sticks of pc-3200. we just added 2 more for a total of 2 GB all pc-3200. he and i have both the same original memory, motherboard, and both bought the same upgrade ram. mine works completely fine, but his does not. however if i put his new ram into my comp, no memory problem. could it be a bios problem? need some help here
check that your/his BIOS are at the same version........... also try reseating all the sticks into different slots ( I know that sounds weird but Ive seen it before)
thats a head scratcher... i agree with sniper about the bios, i'd only add that you need to make sure there is no dust in the unused slots if all 4 sticks of ram are the EXACT same (ie timings) then there shouldnt be a problem, if not, make sure the board isnt overclocked at all and manually set the ram to the higher timings of the two pairs in the bios you might also boot with the original 2 sticks and check the voltages, then add 1 of the new sticks and see if the voltages drop, you may need a new power supply if it drops a lot if it still doesnt boot with 3 sticks then you might have a bad mobo check the caps and make sure that none are swollen even a little bit of swelling or leakage could mean a fucked board if nothing else, get memtest and check all of his sticks in your board just to be sure that his ram isnt defective
ok now we are talking about ram.. could i change 2x 512 mb to 2 x 2 gb, i have 1.73 GHz, 533MGz FSB, 2MB L2cache... and i dont know what it means but thats what i can read... ow and 100 GB HDD (5400 rpm)
i think any compter can have any amount of ram if its got the slots for it.. 4 slots on mine and i am only using 2 slots (2 gb) but lets not let me be the pro.. thats fuzions job
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw...:SortOrder_DOWN i wanna get 2 gigs of ram ... but wats the difference between them sticks of 1 gig
it all depends on your MOBO sheck to see if it supports 2x1GB what does your MOBO support? DDR2 wont work with DDR MB and vice versa what MOBO you have?
What Mojo i have ? ..... o wait now i see.. Mobo i guess Mobo = Motherboard.. where can i see what it support, and where can i find the MOBO :Bucktooth: but i can read somewhere that i have : 1GB DDR2 (support dual-channel), dont know if it is good or not so if you want to tell me that would be great
It definitely did not seem like he was having a problem tonight...He had a 3:1 ratio going for most of the St. Laurent map...
