Ok I got myself a new graphics card and now im thinking about getting another one(some day, when ill have money again)and setting them up in sli. My question is, do i need two exactly identical cards (same manufacturer) or just the same gpu? also, what psu would you recommend?
Not sure about gpu to brand compatability, but I do know that SLI isnt panning out to be the big deal it was first made to be. Programs have to be optimized specificly for this or it does you no good whatsoever. IMHO youre better off with just one if it kicks ass.
you need the exact gpu and ram size but it doesnt have to be the same manufacturer ie a Gigabyte 7900GT 256MB and a Asus 7900GT 256MB although, i really wouldnt recommend using sli as it sucks balls and you will only see about a 15% performance increase
15?? are you serious?? I was aware of the fact that it wouldnt double the performance, I expected about 60% increase in performance, but 15%? if thats true the whole sli thing is bs  besides what psu would you recommend?
well, i guess i should clarify that SLI isnt always going to give you great performance increases. In some games (though not always optimized) it will give you around 40-50% increase, while in others the increase is marginal. Toms Hardware did an article a while back where it compared a 7800GTX single card to a 6800 Ultra SLI setup and in most cases the performance was in the negative for the SLI setup. The problem with these results is that SLI is marketed in two ways, 1. To be the best you need SLI and 2. You can always upgrade a shitty card later with 2 shitty cards... Basically, you either pay way too much for 2 top end cards and get marginal performance across the board vs 1 top end card. Or you get shitty performance on one mid range card, and have to buy another before they stop making your GPU. (this happened to me) here are some reviews and benchmarks so you can see the data yourself: http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1088/8 http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/02/vga...iii/page20.html
