oook... so i installed my copy of bf2 and downloaded the full 1.3 patch. everything updates fine ( or at least says it does ) and i go into the single player to get my controls like i used to have em for my cracked copy. so i play around there for about 15 min and then try to jump on our server. i get in and play for about 3 min and then the game locks up. computer is completely unresponsive and have to do a hard reset to get it back. thought maybe it was a fluke and try it again, but the same fucking thing. this time though i cant get past the weapon load out screen. 5 times in a row and i keep getting stuck trying to pick a weapon. ive lowered all my setting to min. running the latest drivers for video, sound, motherboard, and nic. dunno what the hell is going on .
It used to do that to me too. I would try creating a batch file in you install dir with this: @echo off cd /d "Drogram Files (x86)EA GAMESBattlefield 2" start /high BF2a.exe +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 -heapsize 516096 The -heapsize 516096 part is only if you have 1GB+ RAM Also rename your BF2.EXE to BF2a.exe or something like that. Make sure you send a link to your bat file to the desktop and use that instead of the old bf2 shortcut. I got this from a tweak guide some admin here posted. It works well for me. Also get autoruns from sysinternals and turn off any progs you don't need. You might also try one of the hacked drivers from tweaksrus. I use them on my 6800gs and they work flawlessly. Also, check your temps. If its getting too hot that might cause it to lock up. You might want to run a torture test prog to see if your system is stable.
Follow these steps .... http://www.uangames.net/modules.php?name=F...iewtopic&t=1426 Sounds like it might be punk buster trying to update too ... since SP works fine.
yeah in the console i get "Receiving from PBSERVER (wv1.229|A1365C1.227)" and right as that comes up it locks up. so im not able to go in and change anything about how often punkbuster updates.
yeah already done that, as soon as i jump into a punkbuster server i see punkbuster start going through its motions in the console. immediately when i see its receiving from PBSERVER the game locks up. i can play non punkbuster for as long as i fucking want but i cant even last 2 seconds in a "protected" game. what a bunch of fucking horse shit
Could it be something with the cracked action? What happens when you join an empty server with PB on? Have you tried hosting your own server? Does it update when you go back to the PB website?
thought about trying to host my own server with punkbuster (images of me getting booted from my own game) but i havnt done it yet i physically downloaded the files for punkbuster and im gona try that next empty servers with PB still freeze me
cant think of anything else to do short of reformatting and trying that... before i get to that i put in a tech request with even balance, so lets see what they try to pull out of their ass. everone get ready to pass the buck!
still need some new ideas guys. new patch is a no go. heard that it could be from a bios issue, so im gona reluctantly flash that, but i really really dont wanna pull out fdisk
well got an answer from evenballance (suprising on a saturday). recommended latest drivers (duh) but also a specific one for nforce4 boards that use sata (me) so im gona try that before bios..
A BIOS issue sounds kinda farfetched... maybe its just me lets face it, its just a buggy ass game. It works flawlessly on mine. but my buddy with the same hardware and os has similar issues. I would suspect a driver issue. Use a driver cleaner to get rid of all your sound/video drivers. Make sure you d/l new drivers first cause browsing the web at 640x480 in 8b color sucks major donkey dick. Clean your registry and temp files (no idea why) Also uninstall any codec packs you have (they might conflict or something) Crapcleaner: http://download.ccleaner.com/ccsetup130.exe Drivercleaner: http://www.drivercleaner.net/downloads/DCP...ProSetup_15.zip CCCP (a superior codec pack if you need one): http://cccp-project.net/download.php Oh yeah, My customers have taught me one thing: Never underestimate a noobs potential to overlook the obvious. So... Defragment!
